Steps to Open ITR V | Password to Open ITR Acknowledgement Form
Step 1: If you are filing Income Tax Returns online and not using the process of Digital Signature, you have to take a print out of the ITR V (Acknowledgement), sign it and send it by post to the Income Tax Processing Centre.
Step 2: Once you successfully submit your Income Tax Return, you will receive ITR V to your registered email id.
Step 3: Otherwise, you can also download the ITR V or ITR form through the Income Tax EFiling official web portal.
Step 4: Once you login to the official portal of Income Tax e-filing, you need to navigate to your My Account >> My Returns / Form >> Click on the Acknowledgement Number.
Step 5: The ITR V is a PDF file sent by the Income Tax Processing Centre. As this is a confidential file, the center will send this file with password protection.
Step 6: In order to open the ITR V PDF password protected file, you need to enter your PAN number in lower case letters along with your Date of Birth in the format of DDMMYYYY without adding any space between the PAN and date of birth fields.

Suppose, if your PAN Number is PQRST1345A and Date of Birth or Date of Incorporation is October 24, 1992, and then the password you need to enter should be in this format as pqrst1345a24101992.
You have to send the ITR V to the Income Tax Department – CPC via post to the following address:

You can send it by ordinary post or speed post only within 4 months i.e., 120 days from the date of submission of IT Returns.
